Mike’s Home ESL Mission

I’m an ESL Teacher in China since 2001. ESL means English as a Second Language. So this website can be for teachers teaching English or even parents and also young English learners.

When I arrived in China in 2001, my first job was to teach English in a Kindergarten in the Chinese countryside. I’ve never received any training before starting and the people who were taking me to this place every Sunday had no idea on “how to teach”too. Well I was like a “vase” which was giving this kindergarten a great reputation! What ever if I was a good teacher or not having a foreign teacher was the most important thing! Thanks that today it’s not the case anymore!

I was scared to go to this kindergarten because the kids looking at me started to cry and I was feeling bad! Nobody was here to help me really and had to figure it out myself! Then I started to work in high school for two years. It was great to speak to people who can understand me. Not very talkative students but very kind and nice to me. 16 years after, I still have their contact !

It’s in 2003 that I’ve started to learn more about how to teach English to young learners at Jordan’s Language School. I’ve been trained and helped by great Chinese teachers.

Mike’s Home ESL mission is to help you with your class to bring you happiness and fun when teaching but also for the kids to learn effectively and also with fun and happiness!

That’s the ESL Power; teaching or learning English to make yourself understood and understand others! This world is full of different cultures, habits, languages and that’s great ! The world would be so boring if only one language, one culture. Just like a plate of noodles without peppers, salt, ketchup or vinegar! Bland noodles or bland world! As teachers we should teach kids how to help each others, respect other’s cultures or religions! That’s every ESL teacher’s mission! ESL POWER!! Peace & Love !
